Over the past twelve months more than 2,200 animals were given a second chance of joining a new loving family, through our GAWS Adoption Program.

Our team of dedicated Adoption Officers work tirelessly 7 days a week to ensure our dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and ferrets get the best chance at happiness in a new home.
As part of our program, our adoption officers spend quality time getting to know each animal available for adoption. The information about their personality, their behaviour will provide the basis of determining a suitable home for our animal.
Every animal is special in its own way, so it is crucial that we match an animal with a family that will be able to meet its unique physical and behavioural needs.

The Process of Adopting

Dogs

puppyb&wWhen you adopt a dog from GAWS, they are temperament tested, health checked, de-sexed, microchipped, wormed and treated for fleas.
The adoption process consist of you visiting the shelter and arranging a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in. If you already have a dog in your home, we recommend you bring your pet with you to assess their interaction with our dog.
If you decide to proceed with the adoption, you may be asked to fill in an adoption agreement and then pay the adoption fee.
You may be able to take the dog home on the day of adoption if he/she is already desexed and microchipped. If the dog is undesexed, once you have paid the adoption fee, we place the dog into our Vet Clinic for the next available surgery. This allows your dog to recover from surgery in the comfort of your home.
When there is considerable interest in one particular animal, we may call for expressions of interest and then a decision is made and the successful applicant is notified.
Adoption fees vary based on a number of factors. For example, dogs over the age of 7 years are a lower rate than a puppy as we like to encourage people to adopt animals of all ages.
The adoption fees we charge are designed to offset our costs of placing the animal up for adoption.
All of our pets also come with a one week health guarantee.

Cats

kittyb&wAt any one time we have many felines looking for their new home and family.
You may be able to take the cat home on the day of adoption if he/she is already desexed and microchipped. Our cats are usually desexed upon adoption, which allows the animal to recover from surgery in the comfort of your home.
Once you have paid the adoption fee, we place the cat into our Vet Clinic for the next available surgery. On the day of the surgery (desexing), we arrange for you to collect your pet from our vet clinic so that he/she can recover in the comfort of your home.
All of our pets also come with a one week health guarantee.
