Because every life is precious… There are many times an animal at the shelter need a little extra help before they are ready for adoption and their new forever homes. They may be too young, too old, unwell, recovering from surgery, or may need training to improve their behaviour. Our foster care program helps these animals recover in a home environment until they’re ready to enter adoption.
From rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, kittens, puppies and even pigs, more than 600 animals have gone into foster care over the past twelve months.
If you’re aged over 18 years and have a passion for animal care – we would love to hear from you.

Short-term foster care

We are desperately in need of short-term foster carers for our dogs.
Permanent foster care for orphaned pets
We are currently searching for permanent foster carers to help provide orphaned pets with loving homes through our Bequest Animal Program. These animals are in the GAWS care because their owner’s can no longer take care of them.

Make a real difference to orphaned pets needing a loving home.

foster1Foster carers are responsible for providing a safe and loving home for the animal, and attending to it’s daily needs such as feeding, grooming and exercise. All the things that a well loved pet needs! All veterinary fees for the pet and two weeks boarding each year are covered by the original owner through a bequest to the GAWS

Benefits of permanent foster care

  • Veterinary treatment is covered, including flea treatments and worming.
  • Two weeks of free boarding annually.
  • Support from dedicated GAWS staff and volunteers, including telephone calls and annual visits.
