The dog section of the pound this year has been very impressive with the amount of reclaims compared to previous years.

So far this year GAWS has received  431 dogs compared to 500 at the same time last year. There was a decrease of 36 in the amount of dogs without identification and that’s a great improvement. It’s great to see residents of Geelong becoming more aware of the importance of either registering and or micro-chipping their dogs.

Having your dog micro-chipped and registered greatly increases the chances of reuniting owners with their pets.

Keep up the good work Geelong!

Of the dogs that don’t get reclaimed, they get a second chance to find their forever homes.

We have continued to build our relationship with rescue groups and they have been a big help for when we get a little full or when we have several dogs needing medical attention or that have slight behavioural problems. We appreciate all the help these rescue groups give us.

Some really great results so early in the year!
